Personalized and Evidence-Based Foot & Ankle Treatment

Meet Dr. Greenberg

Currently I am an Associate Podiatrist with Dr. McHugh and Associates, providing comprehensive podiatric care across multiple office locations in Watertown and Torrington, Connecticut. In this role, I manage a broad spectrum of foot and ankle pathology, with an emphasis on personalized and multimodal treatments, from conservative, and if necessary, surgical treatments. Central to the treatment plan is understanding each patient’s story, goals, needs, and barriers. I enjoy treating a diverse patient population of all ages, which have painful foot & ankle conditions, ranging from sports injuries, flatfeet, cavus (high-arched) feet, trauma, neuropathy, bacterial & fungal infections, or medical conditions, like Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes, and many others.

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, I developed a lifelong passion for playing team sports, and as a result, gained interest in sports medicine. After graduating high school, earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in Economics from Elon University in 2018. While at Elon, I participated in undergraduate research investigating the biochemical relationship between Type II diabetes and cardiomyopathy. After undergraduate, I moved to New York City, where I graduated with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 2022.

By 2025, I completed my postgraduate surgical training at NYU Langone Health, where I trained in a high-volume, academically rigorous environment across NYU Langone’s Brooklyn and Manhattan hospitals and surgery centers. During residency, I developed a strong foundation in limb salvage, wound care, trauma, and elective foot and ankle surgery.

In addition to my office practice, I serve as a Faculty Physician at UConn Waterbury Hospital Wound Care Center, and am certified in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. At the center, I focus on saving as much of the foot & ankle as possible, after sustaining wounds from Diabetes, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Neuropathy, Trauma, Post-Operative Complications, or a combination of all of the above. These wounds often require coordination of a multidisciplinary team over the course of months, and have fostered my skills in advanced wound care and evidence-based decision-making. Together we decrease patient morbidity and mortality. In order to further this effort, I offer reconstructive surgical treatment to get patients back to walking and lives.

In my own clinical practice, I believe in addressing each foot’s deforming biomechanical forces, and have a special interest in working with patients to design high quality custom foot orthotics that they enjoy wearing. In my spare time, I enjoy playing racquet sports, woodworking, hiking, and traveling with friends & family.

Commonly Treated Conditions

Biomechanics

Since 1.5x our body weight passes over each foot while walking, a deep understanding of why a patient’s foot is causing them pain is necessary for short and long term pain relief. Orthotics are insoles that are placed inside each shoe, and can either be functional or accommodative. Orthotics give us an opportunity to non-invasively treat the cause of the pain, and are commonly recommended before invasive surgical intervention.

Functional orthotics optimize a patient’s bone and joint movement to relieve pain. Accommodative orthotics maximize comfort for patients with significant arthritis or impaired sensation. Ankle foot orthoses (AFOs) are braces that offer further assistance above the ankle, and are for advanced deformities and neurological conditions causing flaccid or spastic paralysis, such as dropfoot or cerebral palsy.

Biomechanics goes further when planning surgery, and choosing the correct procedure to best address the biomechanical imbalances that precipitated the pain. By neutralizing these deforming forces, pain relief could be enjoyed in the long term. term pain relief.
